Well yesterday i watched the SDK roadmap which is availiable on the Apple’s website and their were some very interesting things. Basically I am going to sum it all up for you so you don’t have to watch the 1:37 long vid.

Enterprise:

According to the roadmap they have teamed up with Microsoft to make Microsoft Exchange compatible with the Iphone/Ipod Touch, this means you can get.

Push e-mail:

Push email basically means you can get your E-mails and e-mail contacts through your business’ exchange server. This is a nice feature because it’s like being at your business wherever you go without having to have a laptop with broadband.

Push Calender:

This is a very nice feuture this will automatically get you your schedule on your calendar app. You can even go very deep into it. Say you have a meeting, you can look at the info, find who is attending it, and get their contact and talk to them if you have any questions about the meeting.

Push Contacts:

Pretty self explanatory. This one automatically gets you your business contacts.

Summary of Enterprise:

This is definetly going to get Apple more customers from the business world. All of this is updated in real time so if a meeting is cancelled you will know it fast.

App posibilities and App Store:

The other half of the presentation was for the Iphone/Ipod Touch firmware 2.0.0. This release will introduce the App Store. This is an application specifically for buying apps. This will use your itunes i.d (as much as I know.) The developer gets to pick the price of the application and the revenue will be split 70/30 the 30 to maintain the store. Apps
can also be free and there will be no charge at all for the apps apple will handle it all.

Software Development Kit (SDK):

The SDK will have three things:

Xcode:

This is the maain coding application for developing. It is very simple just put in code. If you have your Iphone/Ipod Touch connected then you can hit “sync and go” this will automatically write the app to your Iphone/Ipod Touch where you can test and debug it.

Performance tester:

This is a great debugging tool where when you run your app on your Iphone/Ipod Touch of the Iphone emulator. This will show you live stats of your app where you can see things like your FPS. Great for debugging.

iPhone Emulator:

This is pretty self explanatory too but very elegant. This just simulates the iphone where you can test your app without having to have your Iphone/Ipod Touch handy.

Apple’s Competition:

Apple selected a few companies and challenged them to see what they could make in 2 weeks with the SDK. The companies were apple Electronic Arts (EA), Sales Track, Epocrates, and Sega.

Apple:

Apple went for a simple approach. They did a 2 minute, 2 day, and 2 week programs. Their 2 minute app was just one that made the iphone say hello world. 2 day they made TouchFX a app that is kinda like the liquify feature on photoshop. It’s pretty cool. Their 2 week project was a game called Shooter. It was a cool 3d app with a spaceship that you controlled with the accelerometer (pretty cool) and tap to shoot.

EA:

EA made a pretty cool game called spore. In this game you were a tiny animal in a pond and you had to eat things smaller and avoid things bigger. You could customize your spore and it even had a cool little cutscene at the end . This game is also controlled by the accelerometer.

SalesTrack:

This is a regular application. Basically like enterprise.

Epocrates:

Medical stuff

Sega:

Sega did a great classic everyone knows. Super monkey ball. In my opinion this game works amazingly on the Iphone/Ipod Touch. You tilt around the device and it makes the ball roll around.

Well thats all. One really long post that I spent a while on to get you the apple you need.
