Hey Guys,

Not sure if you know, but Wordpress 2.5 is going to be released sometime this month - very exciting for people that use wordpress for blogging. WizzHack is powered by Wordpress and the current version is 2.3.3, the wordpress team have missed out 2.4 for some development issues and moved straight onto 2.5.

2.5 is going to be a complete re-design of the Wordpress we are all used to, the admin panel is going to be completely different and have sleek colors; blue and orange! The speed of wordpress admin panel will improve aswell, because the current admin panel is slow and sluggish. People have reported to see an improvement in the beta releases.

Heres the three things that worry me:

  • Plugin compatibility for WP 2.5, the developers for wordpress have said that some plugins might need a re-design, now I use a lot of vital plugins so I hope the plugin devs will update their plugins. If you have a plugin that doesn’t work with wordpress 2.5, then contact the author or find a replacement.

  • Theme Compatibility for WP 2.5, the theme you are using might not fit with how the new wordpress is designed, now this is a big worry for me as I have highly modified this theme ripping out most of the server calls and make the theme for me, its completely unique to WizzHack, so I am not sure what I will do when 2.5 comes out and my theme doesn’t work.
  • PHP 4.3 is now needed for this update. Now a lot of hosting companies will have 4.3 or greater installed, but before installing you better check as you dont want to have a non working wordpress blog, if the PHP is below 4.3 on your hosting, contact them and ask them to update, you cant be the only one on their servers that want Wordpress 2.5.

I will have to do a lot of research whether wordpress 2.5 is right for me, I dont think this is a must-have update but it would be good, I have already started with checking what version of PHP is installed on WizzHack server and its 4.3, so I am fine. Will need to contact plugin authors and see if they are going to be making the switch.
