Josh92176 (a community member) shouted in the shout box that Steam are giving away Half 2 for free if you have a ATI Graphics Card. I thought I would make a proper blog post outta this, as many people do not read the Shoutbox and have subscribed by RSS.

Maybe Josh can shed some light has to how you prove you are a ATI owner?
If you do not have an ATI card, you will get an error message like the one below, steam does not actually tell you that you are getting a hardware test, so there is noway of knowing. Maybe they do it as soon as you register an Steam Account (take a hardware spec of your computer), this would make more sense as people could just get a hardware changer.
I just got in on this promotion, and it seems pretty nice, however its not Half-Life 2 its just Lost Coast and Deathmatch, I’m downloading them now, I think Steam just does a system check and then does its own stuff from there, not completely sure actually
I just clicked the “get it now” button. It opened up steam and a box instantly came up saying it was going to install the game. There was no visible hardware scanning, so either they dont check or they already had the details of my card (ATI mobility radeon x1300) on record. Any owners of nvida/intel/other cards could try it, you never know it could work!
Or if that doesn’t work just sign into steam on a friends computer (a friend who has an ati card), make sure the games are listed as “purchased” on the account and install on your computer.
