Well, I didn’t know this was free open source software…

I first used it in college, when we had to make a podcast that lasted a few minutes, we used Audacity for putting everything together! Its such an easy to use piece of software, for free. I had never used Audacity before, and when I got to grips with it - you can do so much stuff!

The software makes it easy to do simple tasks, such as adding special affects to sounds e.g. Echo, fast forward, slow motion, fade in/out etc. You can work with different sounds on different ‘layers’, allowing you to play different sounds over each-other. You can set Audacity to record sounds from your microphone, or direct from your speakers (a bit like standard Sound Recorder for Microsoft computers).

Audacity is available for all major operating systems, including Mac, Windows and Linux.

Ubuntu is offering a free CD loaded with ubuntu (Linux), you insert the CD and reboot then Linux will boot straight off the CD! You can take it anywhere and if you have a flash drive you can load all your files onto it. Also I wouldn’t recommend using this in public places such as libraries and so on…

How do I get the cd?

Click get ubuntu on the Ubuntu website then click request free CD sign up and submit your details to get your free CD (maximum of 2 CDs).

Note: the CD may take 4 to 6 weeks for delivery! You can also download and burn the CD…

Thanks,

Brian

Hi all, I’m a new author on WizzHack and this is my fist post!

Wubi is a completely free Ubuntu installer for windows users that will bring you into the amazing world of Linux! If you wanted to install Linux before but was too afraid to try then this is defiantly for you! What Wubi does is installs Ubuntu within your windows operating system. All you have to do is run the installer and then restart you computer (it will do this automatically) on boot you will get a screen that shows two options one will be your current operating system and the other Ubuntu, choose Ubuntu and you will get a screen full of code leave it to run and then an installer screen will appear leave it to run.

Operating systems I have tried this on:

1.) Windows XP (512mb of ram) - Successful

2.) Windows XP (128mb of ram) - Successful

3.) Windows Vista (2 gigs of ram) - Successful

When the installer is finished (This may take up to 2 hours) the computer will restart again and then choose ubuntu again. The new operating system will be successfully installed and you can run Linux! If you have built in wireless the system may not install the drivers for it so you will have to use a cabled connection or a wireless key.

Thanks for reading!

This game is insane! I really enjoyed playing it!

You guys might have read my post on AssaultCube, well this game is similar, but way more fun!

I used to love playing Quake 3 Arena on my Windows 98 computer, but I lost interest when I went over to use a iMac G5. Only recently I have had the urge to play Quake again, but couldn’t find the disc I used to have (I have a Windows XP Laptop), so as I was searching for a FPS (First Person Shooter) I came across OpenArena, which is free and available for Windows, Mac and Linux!

As I said above, the game is based on Quake 3, and its extremely similar! The levels, players and action is all the same (from what I can remember)!

The Gameplay!

When I found OpenArena, I couldn’t wait until it was finally downloaded, and ready to play! The download was slow, as my internet is not amazing, it took about 2 hours. When it had finally finished, I started to play. It was great, just how I remember Quake 3 - fast lively gaming. The graphics are also rendered well, and didn’t put me off the game, as I said in the AssualtCube review, I’m more into game fun, rather than Graphics, but OpenArena does not disappoint!

This is a great free first person shooter (FPS).

AssualtCube was created for people who had 56k modem, and not very much space on there Hard-drive, also people that didn’t have very powerful computers. The game to me is like unreal tournament (the first one), as the graphics and intense gameplay make it an awesome game!

The game is open source and available for all operating systems: Linux, Mac and Windows - supporting most versions including win 98 and Vista. As I said above it was designed for 56k modems, so the file size is only 19mb - which is amazing, for such a huge game.

The game has Single Player and Multiplayer (LAN or WAN) options, which is a really nice feature. Theres different options of gameplay: Death Match or One Shot One Kill games, these are self-explanatory! You can even create your own maps.

The Gameplay!

Well, when I started the game, I thought the graphics were good, for a free 19mb game, but when I saw the players - it was a different story. The players are not great, and for me, that doesn’t matter as I play games that are fun and enjoyable, not just for the graphics (although on some games that can persuade me!)It can get very insane when playing online against other people, as you do get some users who dont have a life and only play AssualtCube, which is sad - you must agree! The first time I went to play online, it was crazy - every 1 minute I died, not knowing where the enemy was hiding (I am sure theres some exploits out there.) I got a few kills, but my death rate didnt give me any credit! The score board is similar to the one used in Counter Strike Source (CSS).

Offline play is a lot better, you get different choices (similar to online - Death Match or One Shot One Kill) and a choice between different numbers of bots - I must warn you, if you choose the highest number - you will find yourself dieing a lot - sometimes instantly. So I would recomend going for a small amount of bots, just so you can get used to the maps etc.

Map Editing!

This is a huge feature in AssaultCube - you can make your own maps! I have only explored this for a little while and you can do so much! Add nearly anything you want, the best advice I can give you if you want to edit/make maps for AssualtCube - check out the official guide!
