AssaultCube Review

This is a great free first person shooter (FPS).

AssualtCube was created for people who had 56k modem, and not very much space on there Hard-drive, also people that didn’t have very powerful computers. The game to me is like unreal tournament (the first one), as the graphics and intense gameplay make it an awesome game!

The game is open source and available for all operating systems: Linux, Mac and Windows - supporting most versions including win 98 and Vista. As I said above it was designed for 56k modems, so the file size is only 19mb - which is amazing, for such a huge game.

The game has Single Player and Multiplayer (LAN or WAN) options, which is a really nice feature. Theres different options of gameplay: Death Match or One Shot One Kill games, these are self-explanatory! You can even create your own maps.

The Gameplay!

Well, when I started the game, I thought the graphics were good, for a free 19mb game, but when I saw the players - it was a different story. The players are not great, and for me, that doesn’t matter as I play games that are fun and enjoyable, not just for the graphics (although on some games that can persuade me!)It can get very insane when playing online against other people, as you do get some users who dont have a life and only play AssualtCube, which is sad - you must agree! The first time I went to play online, it was crazy - every 1 minute I died, not knowing where the enemy was hiding (I am sure theres some exploits out there.) I got a few kills, but my death rate didnt give me any credit!The score board is similar to the one used in Counter Strike Source (CSS).

Offline play is a lot better, you get different choices (similar to online - Death Match or One Shot One Kill) and a choice between different numbers of bots - I must warn you, if you choose the highest number - you will find yourself dieing a lot - sometimes instantly. So I would recomend going for a small amount of bots, just so you can get used to the maps etc.

Map Editing!

This is a huge feature in AssaultCube - you can make your own maps! I have only explored this for a little while and you can do so much! Add nearly anything you want, the best advice I can give you if you want to edit/make maps for AssualtCube - check out the official guide!

Overall!

I would recommend this game for anyone who just wants to have some fun! I couldn’t see myself playing this for hours, but a good few times a week! I would give it 8/10, the reason I didn’t give it 10/10 was because its not that good, the graphics could be improved and the exploit situation could be fixed ^_^ !

Download it, dont give the excuse that you don’t have space, or your computer wont handle it - because as I said above, its made for most computers! Even the oldest hardware!
